Work Experience
I work as an aquatic science biologist with a particular focus on acoustic telemetry projects, mostly on charrs. A full list of my publications can be found here.
Previously (in reverse chronological order), I have been a research assistant at the IISD-Experimental Lakes Area working with fish, long-term monitoring projects, and amphibians in a microplastic study; a science columnist for a community newspaper in Winnipeg; and an assistant lighthouse keeper on Lake Superior.
Science Communication
I'm a volunteer Data Wrangler for the Frank Street Bee and Butterfly Garden, which involves contributing to a community science project on pollinator observations, including collaborating on public data reports and ongoing education efforts. In 2023, I was on a French-language panel about careers with animals for Let's Talk Science, and as a grad student from 2021-2023 I served on an inclusive science communication committee at Queen's University. In this role, I was a student advisor for a workshop on inclusive science communication and co-chaired a special session on the topic at the Society of Canadian Aquatic Sciences conference in 2023.
In 2020 and 2021 I wrote a regular column for The Leaf on scientific topics of local interest, and I wrote this primer on fresh water for the IISD-ELA blog in 2020.
